Portrait of Private Jack Joyce, taken at Blackboy Hill training camp in August 1915, prior to his embarkation for Europe in 1916. It is possible that he was one of those whose bodies were discovered in a mass grave at Pheasant Wood in 2008. His identity discs were returned by the Germans through the Red Cross, confirming that he was not one of those taken prisoner at Fromelles. (Image: Australian War Memorial P08007.001)
