Two Australians at Wau man a 5-inch machine-gun salvaged from a crashed American bomber, April 1943. The gun could be used against low-flying enemy aircraft, though possibly it was of greater morale than practical value. Anti-aircraft batteries and radar units at Wau and Bulolo provided better defence against air raids. AWM 014611
