Troops of the 14th Field Ambulance carry men suffering from trench foot to a hospital transport at Bernafay, France, in December 1916. Walking in front is Lance-Corporal William James, followed by Private John Sturrock. Both went on to be awarded the Military Medal in 1918 for rescuing and attending to wounded men under fire.
