AWM P05315.001

A tribute for a fallen World War 1 male soldier.

On a Monday afternoon in May 1916 Kalgoorlie's bishop conveyed the 'sad intelligence' to the Bennett family that their son George, a bank clerk before joining the 28th battalion, was dead. They ordered this printed tribute from a stationer to 'Another glorious Anzac who gave his all for King and Country' and whom they believed, proudly but mistakenly, to have been the first Australian soldier killed in France.
