A female soldier looking at a photograph through a stereoscope.

As part of an extensive support organisation in Australia which assisted operations in the Pacific, an officer of the Women's Auxiliary Australian Air Force (WAAAF) peers through a stereoscope viewer to interpret aerial photographs at an Allied headquarters in Brisbane, Queensland, in 1942. Information gained in this way was used to plan raids and prepare target maps for the briefing of aircrews. (AWM VIC0805)
