Five men wearing army uniforms and tin helmets crossing an open field, 4 are carrying a medical stretcher and one is waving a white flag with a cross on it.

Stretcher-bearers of the 6th Australian Infantry Brigade bringing in an injured soldier from Mont-Saint Quentin, France, 1 September 1918. This was at a time when the German forces still held the hill, and the soldier on the right was holding up the Red Cross flag to minimise the risk of being fired on. Note also the use of four stretcher-bearers. AWM E03105
