Short films on the Australian experience of war

An important part of our work is to gather and share Australia's military and service history through the experiences of Australian veterans.

Hear our veterans tell their own stories

Drawing on interviews with Australian veterans, archival footage and photographs, these short films highlight many different stories of service.

We created these documentary films as an introduction to each topic. Hopefully, they will inspire you to do further research and learn more about the stories you hear.

The reflections featured in these films add texture to our understanding of military history. They tell us about the lived experience of war.

However, there is much more to historical research. We encourage you to examine archival documents and other primary source material, and draw on secondary sources, to learn more about each topic.

These videos contains personal recounts of soldiers’ experiences in wartime. The material is sometimes confronting and disturbing. Sometimes words or images make people feel distressed or sad. Please be sensitive when sharing this content with others. It might trigger traumatic memories for anyone with personal experience of conflict or military service.
