A decoration of wreaths on chairs in front of a large pillar inside a church.

In the ancient Amiens cathedral, plaques were erected to commemorate the allies who fought on the Somme. This memorial to the Australians reads: To the glory of God and to the memory of the soldiers of the Australian Imperial Force who valiantly participated in the victorious defence of Amiens from March to August 1918, and gave their lives for the cause of justice, liberty and humanity.
