Map phase 2 (final positions): The battle lasted over 3 months. By 10 November, the Allied armies had advanced on a front of over 20km and captured Passchendaele, 10km from their starting point. The city of Ypres is shown to the south-west of the centre of the map. Ypres was near the centre of the front on which the Allies planned to attack. South of Ypres were St Eloi and Wytschaete. Wytschaete was captured by the British a month before the Ypres battle began. East and north-east of Ypres were Geluveld, Hooge, Zonnebeke, Polygon Wood, Broodseinde, Poelcappelle, Langemarck, Houthulst Forest and Passchendaele. Further east were the cities of Roulers and Menin, where German reinforcements detrained for the front. By the end of the Third Battle of Ypres, all but Roulers and Menin had been captured by the Allies.
