Portrait of heliograph at work (Sergeant Allen)
Men at Broadmeadows camp, Victoria, train to use a heliograph for signalling. Heliographs were used to send messages by reflecting sunlight with a mirror. A shutter allowed the beam to be turned on and off in order to send Morse code signals. [AWM DAOD1405]
