Charley was not the only member of his family to serve in the war. His two older brothers followed him to the AIF. Thomas joined up in December 1916. Alfred Blackman (front row, second from left) enlisted the following month, but died of wounds just nine months later in October 1917, while serving with the 41st Battalion in France.
