Photo portrait of Sister Elaine Balfour-Ogilvy dressed in offical uniform of jacket, tie and hat

Sister Elaine Balfour-Ogilvy, 2/4th Casualty Clearing Station, was among the party of Australian nurses who were evacuated from Singapore on the Vyner Brooke. After the sinking of the ship by enemy aircraft on 14 February 1942, Balfour-Ogilvy made it to shore on Banka Island. She was among the twenty-two Australian nurses machine-gunned on a beach on the island. (AWM P01021.001)
