Members of the Australian Army Nursing Service in the hold of the cargo vessel Empire Star, at sea, off Singapore, 12 February 1942. They were being evacuated from 2/10th Australian General Hospital in Singapore to Batavia in the Netherlands East Indies. The ship carrying over 2,000 evacuees was bombed by Japanese aircraft during the voyage. AWM P01117.005
