Members of the Japanese Imperial Navy midget submarine attack group which carried out simultaneous attacks on Diego Suarez and Sydney Harbour on the night of 31 May 1942. Of the fourteen men pictured, only one was to survive, prevented from taking part in the Sydney attack by the death of his crewman when a battery exploded during training. Five others were to die in the attack on Diego Suarez, five in the attack on Sydney Harbour, and two on later missions in the Bay of Biscay and at Guadalcanal. AWM P00325.001
