A column of Italian prisoners stretches almost to the horizon, 4 January 1941. These were some of the more than 40,000 Italians captured at Bardia. Often mocked by the Australians, the Italians were sometimes considered easy beats, though the experience of combat could change men’s views of their adversary. Of a scene such as the one in this image, one Australian wrote: It has been most amusing in the last few days watching the huge streams of Italian prisoners being escorted down the road by one or two Australians. The days before were not so amusing. (AWM 004925) Source AWM 004925 Date made January 1941 Place made Bardia, North Africa Copyright Copyright expired - public domain See also North Africa and Syria
