People gathering in front of a large building to watch armed soldiers

A ceremony in Benghazi's Civic Square on 7 February 1941, marking the capture of the town by General Sir Archibald Wavell's Army of the Nile, which by then had captured the whole of Cyrenaica. Most of the territory captured by the Allies in North Africa during this phase of the war was lost to the German Afrika Korps in the months to come.
