Members of Benghazi's civilian population welcome Australians of the 6th Division in February 1941. Happy perhaps at having been liberated, these people were nevertheless civilians in a town that was heavily looted by the Australians, as had been the case at Derna and Bardia in previous months. Brigadier Mackay expressed his concern at the 'picnic spirit' of the troops and the 6th Division's Deputy Provost Marshal suggested that the theft of goods by the Australians was widespread.
