Named for a derelict Bren Gun Carrier left on its slopes, Carrier Hill was the scene of a raid by C Company of the 2/48th Battalion in April 1941. Shielded by the noise of low flying Lysander aircraft and protected by fighters, the troops went forward preceded by tanks and Bren Gun Carriers. The assault ended when the hill’s Italian defenders surrendered after a short but intense battle.
