Private Joe Egan and Sergeant Cyril Boyle, both from Victoria and both of the 2/23rd Battalion. The two men enlisted on the same June day in 1940 and less than a year later Egan was killed at Tobruk during the same action in which Boyle was wounded. Boyle survived his injuries, but was wounded again at El Alamein in July 1942. (AWM P05668.003)
