Patients wait to be treated at the Fig Tree Regimental Aid Post in Tobruk, September 1940. The cave ceiling is too low for men to stand. Dr Peter Braithwaite, who was the medical officer at the post, recalled that although the conditions were primitive, he was fortunate to have a stretcher to sleep on and a basin of hot water with which to wash everyday, a relative luxury compared to conditions for the majority of soldiers in Tobruk.
