Flight Lieutenant (later Group Captain), Clive Caldwell DSO, DFC, in Cyrenaica, Libya, c. December 1941. Caldwell earned a DFC and bar in the Western Desert campaign in an impressive action in El Adem on 5 December 1941 in which he shot down five Ju-87 Stukas in eighteen seconds. During his time in the Middle East he held nineteen individual confirmed kills, a combat record which earned him the nickname 'Killer'. (AWM MED0177)
