Frank Norton's drawing entitled They came by night depicts Australian soldiers embarking on HMAS Nizam at Tobruk, as British troops disembark. Without lights, the destroyer has made fast to the wrecked merchant ship Serenitas, and planks link the deck of the destroyer to that of the wreck to allow troops to pass. At the same time, stores and ammunition are slid from the destroyer's deck into the well of the wreck. The drawing was made as some of the last of the Australians troops were leaving Tobruk.
