An Australian Lieutenant takes the time to write a letter in a railway cutting west of Tel el Eisa on 1 August 1942. Fierce fighting had taken place in this cutting during the previous month and the Australians had suffered heavy casualties in their attempts to first take and then hold Tel el Eisa ridge.
