On 13 September 1944 a group of British and Australian former prisoners of war posed for this photo at Rorschach in Switzerland. Lance Bombardier Lloyd Moule, 3rd Anti-Tank Regiment AIF (third from left, back row) had been captured by Germans west of Tobruk in April 1941. He escaped from an Italian POW camp after the Allied invasion of southern Italy and crossed the Alps into Switzerland with other escapees. Three weeks after this photo was taken, he evaded German frontier guards, crossed into France and returned home to Australia via Marseilles, Italy, Egypt and India.
