A crew of male military personnel onboard a ship.

Men of the 2/4th Battalion crowd aboard the American troopship USS Mexico on 30 October 1944. During the voyage, this 5236-ton ship carried about 1275 soldiers. According to the battalion historian, the crowding apparent in the photograph had one advantage: there was no space for exercises, training or parades, so men simply rested or sunbaked. AWM 083089
