Lieutenant Albert Chowne VC MM, 2/2nd Battalion. Chowne was killed in action on 25 March 1945 near Dagua. He was awarded a posthumous Victoria Cross for 'most conspicuous bravery, brilliant leadership and devotion to duty'. He led a charge in which he knocked out two enemy machine-guns, ignoring his two wounds while advancing 50 metres through intense fire. AWM 134484
