Male soldiers by a tank in the jungle looking at a map.

Men of the 2/3rd Infantry Battalion and the 2/4th Armoured Regiment discuss souvenirs at Kalimboa village on 26 April 1945. Their combined forces had driven the Japanese out of several strong positions in the previous two days. One of two Matilda tanks that had featured in those operations forms a platform for the four tankmen: Trooper Douglas Schmidt, Sergeant Sam Nyman, Trooper Frank Ward and Trooper Donald Levy. When used, the tanks were very effective, though the terrain limited their mobility. The infantrymen are, from left, Privates Eric McDonald, Frank Jackson and Francis Everest. AWM 091261
