A gun blazing fire at night.

Australians of the 2/3rd Field Regiment fire a 'Long Tom' 155-mm gun from the Naugub–Welubi area on 8 May 1945. As the regiment's historian put it, 'Night was turned into day when the “Long Toms” were fired'. The gun, one of two brought to the area in secrecy in late March, helped prepare the Australian assault on Wewak. At 10.30 pm on the same day, this and every other gun of the division fired one round in recognition of the end of hostilities in Europe. AWM 091715
