The Simpson Prize competition

The Simpson Prize is a national civics-based research competition for Year 9 and 10 students. It focuses on the service of Australians in World War I and World War II.

How to enter

The Simpson Prize is open to Year 9 and 10 students across Australia. It's an opportunity for students to research and respond to a research question using a variety of sources.

The competition sets a different research question each year.

Entries for the 2026 competition close 5 pm AEST Wednesday 5 November 2025.

Visit the Simpson Prize website to find out how to enter.

Winning entries

The winners and runners-up from each state and territory will travel to Canberra to participate in a 3-day study program in March 2026.

In April 2026, the winners will travel overseas for a commemorative study tour and attend the Anzac Day service at that location.
