Since 1947, over 30,000 Australians have served in a peacekeeping operation. On 14 September, we commemorate their service and honour those who died.

We gather stories of ordinary Australians who've had extraordinary experiences serving in wars, conflicts and peace operations.

Robert joined the RAAF in 1979. He deployed as part of the international peacekeeping force in the Sinai peninsula in 1982.

In his navy career Dave deployed multiple times including to East Timor and the Middle East. He also served domestically.

Cheryl was serving in 1st Field Hospital when the call-up to go to Rwanda came, she was part of the advance party sent over in 1994.

Ray was a highly decorated and experienced soldier serving in 4 major conflicts. He was a loyal mate and an inspiring leader.

Australian peacekeepers have been in the field since 1947 when they were the first to deploy to the Netherlands East Indies.
